On Saturday, April 12, Santa Barbara City College’s Trombone Ensembles once again welcomed legendary movie soundtrack trombonist Alex Iles as our guest artist for the Spring 2025 “Slide Show” master class and concert

The morning master class featured Alex Iles working with members of our SBCC Trombone Ensembles, providing critique for trombonists of all ages and skill levels as they performed iconic solo works, including:
– Blue Bells of Scotland (Arthur Pryor)
– Annie Laurie (Arthur Pryor)
– Concerto for Trombone (Rimsky-Korsakov)
– Andante & Allegro (Barat)
– A Winter’s Night (Kevin McKee)
– Hymn for Planet Earth (Steven Verhelst)
– Violent Shadows (Chris Evan Hass)
And later that same day, our SBCC Trombone Ensembles performed a well-attended concert entitled “Trombone Through the Ages,” featuring masterworks by composers from the Middle Ages to the Modern Era, including:
– Symphony No. 5 (Beethoven)
– The Firebird (Stravinsky)
– Light Cavalry Overture (Von Suppe)
– Concerto for Trombone (Rimsky-Korsakov)
– “Little” Fugue in G Minor (J.S. Bach)
– Canzona Sonare No. 2 (Gabrieli)
– Rose, Liz, Printemps, Verdure (Machaut)
– Yesterday (the Beatles)
– Joshua Fit the Battle of Jericho (a jazzy take on the Spiritual by James Markey)
