Applied Music
Private Lessons
Students may receive private lessons through our Applied Music program. This program is a .5 unit class where qualified Music Majors can receive private lessons for up to 4 semesters. Most transfer programs require or look favorably upon applied music credits.
Requirements for eligibility:
- Successfully pass an audition. Acceptance is dependent upon applicant performance level and available spots.
- All applicants should be declared as Music Majors, and must be enrolled in, or have passed, Musicianship and Theory classes (Mus 102A & 104A or 102B & 104B).
- All applicants must be currently enrolled in one Performance class: Currently, the list of elligible performance classes is: Mus 160, 160B, 160C, 160D, Mus 161, 161B Mus 162, 162B, 162C, 162D, Mus 163, 163B, 163C, 163D Mus 165, 165B Mus 166, 166B Mus 167, 167B, 167C Mus 168, 168B, 168C, 168D Mus 170, 170B, 170C, 170D Mus 171, 172, 174, 176 Mus 177, 177B Mus 188A, 188B, 188C
Semester requirements:
- Attend weekly lesson with instructor.
- Perform in 2 out of the 3 Applied Recitals in the semester.
- Attend all 3 Applied Recitals in the semester.
- Perform at an end of year Jury.
Audition Requirements:
- Sign up for an audition (see google form below)
- Perform a representative piece (or excerpt) for audition, approximately about 1-3 minutes in length. The audition piece should be in the same style and on the same instrument as what you are hoping to study in Applied Music.
- Auditions for Applied Music are the first Friday of the Fall & Spring semesters.
- You will be given a more specific audition time about a day before the auditions.
