Our Big Bands and combos have performed with Jazz legends and Grammy award winners, such as Clark Terry, Michael Brecker, Maria Schneider, Gerald Wilson, and Michael McDonald.
With three big bands and several jazz combos, SBCC Music offers students of all levels the opportunity to study in a complete jazz program. The “Monday Madness Band” conducted by Andrew Martinez, the award winning “Lunch Break Jazz Band” directed by Jim Mooy, and “The New World Jazz Combo” lead by Andrew Martinez frequently perform at jazz clubs and festivals throughout Southern California. SBCC jazz ensembles have emerged as finalists and first place recipients at the Reno Jazz Festival and Monterey Next Generation Jazz Festival where they competed with the top universities and music conservatories from across the country.

Monday Madness is an all-pro big band meeting Monday nights.
Lunch Break is the award winning “A” band that meets Tuesdays and Thursdays at 12:45pm.
Good Times is the award winning “B” band that meets Tuesdays and Thursdays at 3:55pm.
The Jazz combos meet Friday mornings from 9:00am – 12 noon, with room for all skill levels.
